STRIDE (STRD) FAQ
Is the Stride (STRD) crypto project related to MicroStrategy?
No. Despite the similarity in names, the Stride (STRD) liquid staking protocol is entirely separate from the STRD preferred stock issued by MicroStrategy. Stride is a Cosmos-native blockchain protocol, whereas the namesake stock is a financial instrument used by a corporate entity for Bitcoin accumulation. They serve completely different purposes and operate in different markets.
How does Stride differ from other liquid staking providers?
While Stride provides services similar to other liquid staking providers, it is uniquely built as its own specialized blockchain, known as an 'Appchain.' Unlike protocols that function primarily as a set of smart contracts on Ethereum, Stride is a 'consumer chain' within the interchain ecosystem. This allows it to offer native liquid staking across various interconnected blockchains using a specialized security model.
What are stTokens and how does their value increase?
When you stake native tokens like ATOM or TIA through Stride, you receive stTokens (such as stATOM or stTIA). These are liquid staking derivatives that represent your staked assets plus accrued rewards. Stride uses a non-rebasing model, meaning your token balance does not increase. Instead, the value of each stToken increases relative to the native asset over time as staking rewards accumulate within the protocol.
What is the utility of the STRD token and its revenue model?
The STRD token is used for protocol governance, enabling holders to vote on validator sets and fee structures. It also facilitates value accrual for holders. Stride charges a 10% fee on the staking rewards earned by assets on the platform. Roughly 85% of this fee revenue is distributed to STRD stakers as a basket of various tokens, while 15% is shared with the security provider of the network.
How is the Stride network secured?
Stride is secured via Interchain Security (ICS), meaning it leverages the validator set and economic security of the Cosmos Hub. This model allows Stride to benefit from billions of dollars in security without relying solely on the market capitalization of its own native token. This makes it one of the most economically secure protocols in the interchain ecosystem.
How can users unstake their assets and what is the unbonding period?
If you unstake through the Stride protocol, you must wait the standard unbonding period of the native blockchain, such as 21 days for ATOM. However, most users prefer 'instant unstaking' by swapping their stTokens for native assets on trading platforms like LBank or various decentralized exchanges. This method provides immediate liquidity without the need to wait for the protocol's unbonding timer.
